They say that each person has seven lookalikes in the world, which roughly means that every single person has a double. While this theory leaves much to be desired, the following list contains 15 pictures of celebrities and their historical doppelgangers, all of which are pretty amazing!
On a related note, if you happen to be interested in look-alikes, make sure you check out photographer Francois Brunelle’s latest project, in which he has photographed unrelated look-alikes from across the world; an interesting project if there ever was one.
1. Michael Cera
The “Juno” actor bears a striking resemblance to the woman in this 1940 painting of Dona Carmen Arconda by Spanish painter Ignacio Zuloaga.
2. Keanu Reeves
Keanu Reeves looks like he’s stepped right out of this 1875 picture of French actor Paul Mounet – an absolute dead ringer for the actor, facial hair included.
3. Justin Timberlake
4. Conan O’Brien
5. Alec Baldwin
Joseph G. Kolans (photograph, 1964) was an Army veteran and member of the Detroit Sportsman Congress, along with being Alec Baldwin’s doppelgänger.
6. Matt Damon
Ivan Kozhedub was the Chief Marshal of Aviation in the Soviet military. This picture, taken in 1946, leaves no doubt that he is, indeed, Matt Damon’s equally handsome historical doppelganger.
7. Jennifer Lawrence
Egyptian actress Zubaida Tharwat, who looks just like Jennifer Lawrence, is now 75-years-old, and is renowned for her work in films such as “A Day of My Life” (1961), “Beware of Love” (1960), and “Part Virgin” (1961).
8. Jack Black
Paul Revere (1734-1818) was a silversmith, industrialist, and an American Revolution patriot, who has been immortalised in H.W. Longfellow’s poem “Paul Revere’s Ride” for his role in the Revolution. And, of course, as you can see, he bears an uncanny resemblance to the beloved Jack Black.
9. John Travolta
The handsome John Travolta had an equally handsome doppelganger in an 1870 photograph of this as yet unidentified man.
10. Nicolas Cage
This picture of a man who lived in Bristol, Tennessee, and bears a startling resemblance to “Ghost Rider” star Nicolas Cage was taken around the time of the American Civil War.
11.
There is a possibility that when you look at a picture of John Brown – an abolitionist who aimed at overthrowing slavery in America – you mistake him for “Two and a Half Men” star Charlie Sheen, and with reason, too, as you can see from this 1846 picture of Brown’s.
12. Jay-Z
Jay-Z might have been around much longer than we think. A picture taken by renowned photographer Sid Grossman in Harlem in 1939 shows a man who looks so much like Jay-Z that it’s slightly disconcerting.
13. Bruce Willis
The “Die Hard” actor is a spitting image of Douglas MacArthur (1880-1964), an American general and Field Marshal of the Philippine Army, and one of the only five men to have risen to the rank of General of the Army in the US Army.
14. Maggie Gyllenhaal
Writer Rose Wilder Lane (1886-1968) is widely considered to be one of the founding mothers of the American libertarian movement. She is also widely considered to be a striking lookalike of Maggie Gyllenhaal’s.
15. Chuck Norris
Of course, we know that Chuck Norris can make the impossible, possible, so it wouldn’t be completely outrageous for us to claim that him and Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) are practically the same person. One of the greatest artists that the world has ever witnessed, there is no denying that van Gogh bore an uncanny resemblance to Chuck Norris.
